Mental Health Matters: Changing Your Environment Can Help

By

Mental health has become a critical issue in today’s world, particularly in the face of a pandemic that has forced us to stay at home and limit our interactions with others. As an Indian, I am familiar with the common belief that mental illness is not real, and that we should simply “get over it” or “tough it out.” But as someone who has experienced the suffocating feeling of depression during lockdown, I can tell you that it is very real.

When the lockdown began, I felt trapped and isolated, unable to see my friends or do the things I enjoyed. The feeling of being confined started to weigh heavily on my mind, and I began to feel like I couldn’t breathe. This is the insidious nature of depression – it can make you feel like you’re suffocating even when there’s plenty of air to breathe.

However, I realized that sometimes, all you need to do is change your environment to start feeling better. As soon as I got the opportunity, I went on a small vacation, and it was like a breath of fresh air. I could breathe again, and I didn’t feel trapped anymore. It made me realize that sometimes, we just need to step back and change our surroundings to see things clearly.

If you’re going through depression or any similar mental health issue, it’s essential to understand that it’s not the end of the world. You’re not alone, and there is help available. Take a break and go on a vacation if possible. Clear your head and reflect on what’s important to you. If you’re not happy with your job, your relationship, or any other aspect of your life, don’t be afraid to make a change. It’s important to prioritize your own happiness and well-being, even if it means making difficult decisions.

Never compromise your feelings and happiness for others. Remember to love yourself first and foremost, and everything else will fall into place. So take care of yourself, take a break when you need it, and don’t be afraid to seek help when you need it. Mental health matters, and it’s time we start taking it seriously.
